Exit Killer has four predefined levels of killing:

1. Basic: Kills windows that appear outside the visible desktop area (this is normally popups that are set with a delay function)

2.  Medium: as basic plus kills small windows (you can define the size of al small window)

3. High level: as medium plus kills all windows that are opened and without any click of the mouse.

4. Highest level Kills all new popups and windows!

From this list we can see that ExitKiller closes windows based on their size, where they first appear and the time from your last click with the mouse. In the advanced feature you can actually define the time interval from "a click with the mouse" where this pop up killer will allow popups (simulating the override key).

When Exit Killer detects a popup it will close it based on the level you choose and the criteria you specify. You will get a flash as the popup gets inn and Exit Killer calculate if it should be closed or not.

After testing out we ended up at level 3 as our preferred choice, at this level the balance of killing annoying popups and ExitKiller interfering with your surfing is at it's best.
All bad popups was killed in our test, but you might find some friendly popups getting killed to when you click a link. This happens because ExitKiller will kill all popups smaller than the specified size. If this happens simply use the override key and click the link again!

At the highest level all windows will get killed, even links that open in new windows. You will not even be able to open new browser windows! If you choose this level you have to get used to the override key as you surf the web.

Exit Killer let you temporarily override it by simply pressing down the control or shift key (you choose which one!) a must at level 4 and nice to have at level 3.
